This object lesson shows how God uses both good and bad things in our life to make us into the person we are. It illustrates Romans 8:28, in which Paul says that God uses ALL THINGS for our good. It uses the analogy of baking a cake with all its ingredients.

Materials

Small bowls or cups (10)

About half a cup of each of the following ingredients (poured into the small bowls or cups):

Sugar

Flour

Unsweetened cocoa powder

Baking powder

Baking soda

Salt

Water

Milk

Vegetable oil

One egg

Marker (1)

Plastic spoons (one for the teacher and one for each volunteer)

Table (1)

OPTIONAL - Snack cakes (One per child if you want to finish the lesson with a nice treat)

OPTIONAL - Chef costume for the teacher (apron, chef’s hat wooden spoon, etc.)
